What the price includes
What the price includes
- A battery and charging-system test before any replacement. A tired battery and a faulty alternator show the same symptoms, and replacing the wrong one fixes nothing.
- The right size class of battery for your car. The battery is priced separately and we tell you the figure before anything is disconnected.
- The swap done so the car's memories survive, whenever the car makes that technically possible
- On start-stop cars, registration of the new battery to the car's systems where the car requires it
- Recycling of the old battery. A lead battery is hazardous waste and is never left with the customer.
What the price does not include
- The battery's own price. It depends on size class and type, and we quote it after the test, before you decide.
- The drive battery of an electric or hybrid car. That is high-voltage work and a different matter from the 12-volt battery these cars still need.
- Alternator or starter-motor repair. If the test points at either, we price that work separately.
When this work becomes due
In Finland a battery usually dies on a freezing morning. Cold does not break a battery, it exposes it: a battery that managed through summer still turns the engine, but at minus twenty the starting current drops by a third and the engine turns in stiff oil. That is why battery faults pile into January and February.
A slow start is the battery's usual warning. If the starter turns lazily in the morning, or the dashboard lights dim while cranking, the battery is worth testing before it strands you. The test takes minutes and shows at the same time whether the alternator charges as it should.
A battery's normal life is five to seven years. Short trips shorten it, because the battery never charges fully, and standing half-charged corrodes the cells. If you know the battery's age and it is nearing five years, a test is the cheapest way to avoid a tow truck.
In newer cars a battery swap is no longer just spanner work. A start-stop system needs the right battery type, and in many cars the new battery must be registered to the car's systems for charging to work correctly. A wrongly fitted battery can wear out in a couple of years.
With every replacement we also test the alternator. If the alternator does not charge, the new battery drains in weeks exactly like the old one did, and the money went to the wrong part. That is precisely why the test is part of the price.
If we find something else
We do not start work you do not know about. If we find something beyond what was agreed, we call and tell you what it costs and what happens if it is left undone. You decide.
A fixed price does not change without your permission. If we cannot reach you within a reasonable time, the law allows us up to 150 € of minor and necessary additional work.
We work to the motor vehicle service and repair terms approved by the consumer advisory board of the Finnish motor trade.
