When this work becomes due
Pad life depends on how the car is driven far more than on distance. A typical interval is 30 000 to 60 000 km. City driving wears pads faster than motorway driving, and an automatic wears front pads faster than a manual.
There are four signs, and they deserve to be taken seriously in this order. A metallic scraping noise under braking means the pad is gone and the disc is being damaged right now. A squeal is the wear indicator, and there is a little time left. A longer stopping distance and a soft pedal point at the fluid or a caliper, not necessarily at the pads. Pulling to one side under braking means one side is braking harder than the other.
Discs are replaced along with the pads when their thickness is near the manufacturer's minimum, or when the surface is scored or distorted. We do not replace discs automatically. We measure them and show you the measurement.
This job carries a maximum price rather than a fixed one, because the final figure depends on what the lift shows. Under Finnish law a maximum price may not be exceeded even for additional work. If the job comes in cheaper, you pay less.
Together, suspension and brakes account for 67 per cent of all faults that fail a passenger car at inspection. The figure is from Traficom's 2025 statistics. It surprises nobody who looks at cars from a lift every day, but it is a good reason to have the brakes checked before the inspection rather than after it.
If we find something else
We do not start work you do not know about. If we find something beyond what was agreed, we call and tell you what it costs and what happens if it is left undone. You decide.
We never exceed a maximum price, not even for additional work. That is the entire point of quoting one.
We work to the motor vehicle service and repair terms approved by the consumer advisory board of the Finnish motor trade.
