What the price includes
- The fault list gone through item by item, with a price for each repair before work starts
- Repair of the faults behind the rejection: most often suspension, brakes, lights and exhaust emissions
- A check on the lift of the parts next to the listed ones, so the same fault does not fail the car again
- A road test or measurement of the repaired item before the car goes to re-inspection
What the price does not include
- The inspection and the re-inspection themselves. The station does those. We repair, the station inspects, and by law the same company may not do both.
- Accident repair and painting. If the rejection is body rust, we tell you honestly whether the repair is worth it.
- Faults that are not on the list. If we find something else, we call and ask first.
When this work becomes due
Roughly one car in three fails the Finnish inspection. The commonest reasons are suspension joints and brakes, exactly the faults a lift and an hour or two put right. A rejection does not mean the car is bad. It means one measurable item went past a limit.
The fault list is the map of the repair. The inspector writes every failing fault on its own line, and we price the work line by line. That is why we always ask for the list before booking: photograph it with your phone and send it in the booking form's message field, and we can have the right parts waiting.
At the re-inspection the station checks only the rejected items, and you normally have one month from the rejection. A month is plenty when we get the list early. If the deadline passes, the car needs a full new inspection, which costs more than a re-inspection.
A repair notice is not the same as a rejection. With a notice the car passed, but the fault is on record and is worth repairing before next year turns it into a rejection. The same list can be brought to us the same way.
We do not perform inspections ourselves, and we do not want to. A workshop that earns its living from repairing rather than inspecting can tell you honestly what must be fixed now and what will keep for another year.
If we find something else
We do not start work you do not know about. If we find something beyond what was agreed, we call and tell you what it costs and what happens if it is left undone. You decide.
Once we have seen the car we give you a fixed price. After that it does not change without your permission.
